Are You Smarter Than a Congressman?

November 24, 2008

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute produced a 33 question quiz which tests knowledge of American Civics.

Thirty three questions.  No sweat.

They gave this quiz to the general public whose average score was only 49%.

Then they sorted out those who were elected U.S. Officials.  The average score?  44%.

This begs the question of the month….

Are You Smarter Than a Congressman?

Take the quiz here.  Feel free to post your results in the comments.

Then read the whole report here.

Full disclosure:  I took the quiz:  You answered 31 out of 33 correctly — 93.94 %

Amercia’s Most Wanted: Shilling for Islam?

November 23, 2008

I read Atlas Shrugs posting today about the America’s Most Wanted episode that aired last night which recounted the honor killing of two young girls in Texas.  I trust Atlas more than I trust John Walsh and considering what John went through, when his own child was abducted and murdered, I would have assumed that he would have been more inclined to tell the whole truth rather than turn out a politically correct whitewashed version of the events leading to the murder of these two girls by their father.

This multiple murder had all of the trappings of a muslim ‘honor’ killing yet no religion or no specifics were ever cited.

Read the whole report at Atlas here.

Today is Victory in Iraq Day!

November 22, 2008

Thank You U.S. Military

You have answered the call and performed your duties beyond our wildest expectations.  You have paid the price for liberating a people who long suffered under a dictator’s boot.  You have protected them while the savages attempted to turn their homeland into a killing field.  You have mentored them while they learned to stand, walk and run in defense of their own nation.

You are all HEROES!

May God Bless You All

We join all these others in celebrating your Victory!

Who Replaces Hillary Clinton?

November 22, 2008

With Hillary Clinton about to pack her carpet bag again and head off to Washington, an interesting situation arises in New York with an unelected Senate replacement and an unelected Governor facing election in two years.  This is an opportunity for New York to throw off the chains of the entrenched Democrat power elite and put a more conservative voice in the Senate.

The expected move of Hillary Clinton to Foggy Bottom will set off an intriguing parlor game among New York State Democrats. Whom will Governor Paterson appoint to succeed Clinton? And how will it affect the gubernatorial and senate races in New York in 2010?

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has long been seen as a likely primary opponent to Paterson in 2010, and given his famous name and fundraising base, he’s likely to offer a stiff challenge. Paterson will surely be tempted to dispatch Cuomo to Washington — if he’s willing to go.
Recent reports say Cuomo would turn the job down, but his attitude might change once the discussion moves past hypotheticals.

On the other hand, the New York State chapter of NOW wants a woman to succeed Clinton. That could boost the chance that New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn could become the first openly lesbian member of the U.S. Senate. And if all that speculation weren’t enough, the New York Post reports that Paterson and Senator Chuck Schumer may already have a deal to appoint a relative nobody to the spot. It seems that Schumer’s priority is that he get recognized as New York’s senior Senator, and Andrew Cuomo would be the only contender for the Senate seat to threaten that status. Schumer apparently wants a less high-profile junior Senator — someone like Buffalo Representative Brian Higgins, or Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand.

More local New York speculation here.

And here, here, here, here, here and here.

What You Get When Congress Builds the Cars

November 21, 2008

The Pelosi GTxi SS/Rt Sport Edition.

It’s in the way you dress. The way you boogie down. The way you sign your unemployment check. You’re a man who likes to do things your own way. And on those special odd-numbered Saturdays when driving is permitted, you want it in your car. It’s that special feeling of a zero-emissions wind at your back and a road ahead meandering with possibilities. The kind of feeling you get behind the wheel of the Pelosi GTxi SS/Rt Sport Edition from Congressional Motors.

All new for 2012, the Pelosi GTxi SS/Rt Sport Edition is the mandatory American car so advanced it took $100 billion and an entire Congress to design it. We started with same reliable 7-way hybrid ethanol-biodeisel-electric-clean coal-wind-solar-pedal power plant behind the base model Pelosi, but packed it with extra oomph and the sassy styling pizazz that tells the world that 1974 Detroit is back again — with a vengeance.

Cooking the Books at NASA

November 12, 2008

Global warming aka Climate change has become a mantra to those who persist in seeing humans as the bane of the environment and the universe.  Time and again it has been proven that climate change is NOT a human driven event and that instead of warming, the earth is actually cooling.  Yet true believers are always looking for more facts to bolster their failing arguments and, in some cases, actually cooking them up.

The following exposes such a story:

Amateur team finds NASA error similar to one they discovered a year ago.

NASA’S Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) is one of the world’s primary sources for climate data. GISS issues regular updates on world temperatures based on their analysis of temperature readings from thousands of monitoring stations over the globe.

GISS’ most recent data release originally reported last October as being extraordinarily warm– a full 0.78C above normal. This would have made it the warmest October on record; a huge increase over the previous month’s data.

Those results set off alarm bells with Steve McIntyre and his gang of Baker Street irregulars at Climateaudit.org. They noted that NASA’s data didn’t agree at all with the satellite temperature record, which showed October to be very mild, continuing the same trend of slight cooling that has persisted since 1998. So they dug a little deeper.

McKintyre, the same man who found errors last year in GISS’s US temperature record, quickly noted that most of the temperature increase was coming from Russia. A chart of world temperatures showed that in October, most of Russia, the largest nation on Earth, was not only registering hot, but literally off the scale. Yet anecdotal reports were suggesting that October was actually slightly colder than normal. Could there be another error in GISS’s data?

An alert reader on McKintyre’s blog revealed that there was a very large problem. Looking at the actual readings from individual stations in Russia showed a curious anomaly. The locations had all been assigned the exact temperatures from a month earlier– the much warmer month of September. Russia cools very rapidly in the fall months, so recycling the data from the earlier month had led to a massive temperature increase.

A few locations in Ireland were also found to be using September data.

Now here is where it gets really interesting…

GISS is run by Dr. James Hansen, a strident global warming advocate who has accused oil companies of “crimes against humanity”.  Hansen recently made headlines when he travelled to London to testify on behalf of a group of environmentalists who had damaged a coal plant in protest against global warming. Hansen also serves as science advisor to Al Gore.

Steve McKintyre informed GISS of the error by email. According to McKintyre, there was no response, but within “about an hour”, GISS pulled down the erroneous data, citing a “mishap” and pointing the finger of blame upstream to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminstration (NOAA).

NOAA’s Deputy Director of Communications, Scott Smullens, tells DailyTech that NOAA is responsible only for temperature readings in the US, not those in other nations.

Read the whole thing at Daily Tech and then read ClimateChange.org‘s deliciously snarky story:

Did Napoleon Use Hansen’s Temperature Data?

The Militia Arms in Self Defense

November 7, 2008

Across the nation, not just in red states, citizens are arming themselves in preparation to defend themselves, their families and their constitutional rights in the wake of the media abetted, illegally funded, ballot box stuffed election this week.

The arming continues here, here, here, here, here and here.  I can personally attest to this happening in New York.  Ruger is even offering an “Inaugural Special” on high capacity Mini-14 magazines.

Many feel the outlook is bleak.  The most radically leftist candidate ever has been elected president.  Ordinary folks have seen the lack of serious inquiry by the main stream media into any aspect of his background.  They see the direction the democrat party intends to take the country.  Nationalization of the financial system, seizure of IRAs and 401ks, imposition of censorship on the few available conservative communications mediums, establishment of an internal security police force, indoctrination of our youth, revocation of our second amendment rights, the list goes on and on.

George Soros must be giddy with glee to see the impending success of his machinations.  His ultimate goal of the destruction of the United States appears nearer at hand than he could have expected.

As the Confederate Yankee puts it:

As severe the rush is now, it would be even worse if more Americans knew of Obama’s attempt to corrupt Constitutional scholarship while at the anti-gun Joyce Foundation. Barack Obama is a gun-banner at heart, and there is every reason for Americans to doubt his campaign’s more moderate rhetoric when compared to his actual record.

Buy guns, America. It’s good for the economy, good for the development of our nation’s moral character, and our last bulwark against tyranny.

Read his posting here.

May God Bless the United States of America.

Democrats Prepare to Pack the Bench

November 6, 2008

Every left wing judicial activist is wetting his pants right now thinking about how the logjam of judicial appointments, largely constructed by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), is about to be broken.  The long list of President Bush’s nominations, which Schumer held up because the nominees were NOT left wing judicial activists, is about to be swept aside.  Now there are unlikely to be nominees who aren’t be vetted by Schumer, the ACLU, the National Lawyers Guild and even CAIR.

Democrat Party Judge

Democrat Party Judge

If it weren’t such an outright lie it would be funny to hear statements like these:

Democrats and allied advocacy groups expect President-elect Barack Obama to put a progressive stamp on the federal judiciary, saying it has veered too far right under President Bush.

For those with short memories lets reexamine how President Bush tried to be bipartisan from the outset of his administration and had his efforts thrown back in his face by Schumer, Leahy and every other democrat in the Congress.

…on May 9, 2001, President Bush held an event in the East Room to introduce to the country and to the Senate his first 11 nominees to the federal bench. He invited leaders from both parties. I distinctly remember seeing Senator Leahy — then chairman of the Judiciary Committee — in the room. There were a record number of judicial vacancies, including numerous judicial emergencies designated by the non-partisan Administrative Office of the U.S. courts, and President Bush had moved with record speed to get a slate of nominees up to the Senate.

The president presented a slate of well-qualified, mainstream nominees. The slate was racially diverse. It included a mix of men and women. And, perhaps most importantly, it included both Republicans and Democrats. People forget this, but two of the original eleven were judges originally nominated by President Clinton: Roger Gregory and Barrington Parker. In the case of Judge Gregory, it was the first time in history that a president had re-nominated a failed circuit-court nominee originally nominated by his predecessor from the other political party. This was unprecedented and highly significant, and it was intended to send a message. It was an olive branch. The president highlighted it in his speech that day, asking the Senate to move beyond the bitterness of the past in the judicial wars and to start afresh in a spirit of cooperation and good faith.

The Democrats took the olive branch the president extended and slapped him in the face with it. They immediately held hearings for, and confirmed, the two Democrats among the nominees and then held up the rest, refusing even to hold hearings for a long time on most of them. They then complained incessantly (and, for the most part, falsely) about not having been adequately consulted by the White House with regard to these nominations. And they executed the play suggested by Professor Tribe, Marcia Greenberger, and others at a Democratic strategy session on how to block Bush judicial nominations — a session held before the president had even taken office — when they scheduled hearings under Senator Schumer to try to legitimize the notion that judicial nominations could be blocked on ideological, rather than competence grounds.

Now that the most radically left wing president in history has been elected you can be assured that his nominees, no matter how radical, will have no difficulty passing Chucky Schumer’s litmus test.
